Back in the game

It seems fate keeps looping me into the sport (luckily). There was an opportunity to pick up a 2005 Polaris 550 Classic with trailer for a pretty good price. That the sled had 770 odd miles on it was a further bonus.

Sometimes I have to hand it to my wife for finding these deals, but this one was already in the family and easy enough to do. So yes, I?m back into snowmobiling (again ? yay!), and hope to share some tales with folks here on snowmoblog.com soon.

To help on that end, I?ve picked up a Flip minoHD and outfitted the still camera with a bigger SD card. Here?s to new rides, and new stories to share.

Uh, so what’s going on?

Oh, nothing at the moment. If you check the post below, you?ll see it?s taken me almost a full year to post here.

The original idea of Snowmoblog was to simply blog about my favorite motorsport: snowmobiling. So much for making that work out on a regular basis.

So I?m coming back to this blog this autumn, not sure what to do next. However, I know I want to cover winter sports. Perhaps not just snowmobiling, but also some of the other things we do outside during the winter.

I?ve been thinking of how to cover more events, but that might not be the real need here. I?m beginning to think what I really should do is to cover destinations. Places and regions that offer the most for the winter sportsperson, whether that?s snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling.

When will this all start to take place? Well, that I?m not sure I can answer. There will be content coming this fall, but it may begin in fits and starts as I merge this blog back into my writing schedule. At least, that?s the plan.

So check in from time to time, there will be more content as we go forward. I?d love to say ?stay tuned?, but it won?t be that fast. Maybe a post here and there before I really get ramped up again. Hopefully by late autumn we?ll have more regular content.

Until then, have a great time in the outdoors ? the autumn color is just around the corner. Get out there and enjoy.

What a disappointing season, I never even got my sled out of the shed this winter.

This post is just an update to let anyone know that there will be minimal postings over the summer months. There may be a news item that gets linked to from here, but will mainly remain quiet during the summer months. Without any real winter fun, the incentive to write content here was lost.

I do have high hopes for next winter, and will crank up the content posting we we get into the pre-season. So hang in there and wish for a prosperous winter in 8 months or so.

I’ll see ya at the trailhead!

Winter with No Go

So far, this winter has been a disappointment. There has been little snow to go sledding and there is much less time to get north to even attempt it. There may be a weekend later this month, or into February, but I’m beginning to think it won’t happen this year.

I feel the need to apologize to everyone reading Snowmoblog as I had planned on blogging more experiences, rides, and trips than I think will happen this year. I’m working on finding some related content that is of interest to sledding and will work that into some posts through the winter, but as far as blogging a full season of snowmobiling, this is not the year.

Yep, still no snow in the Minneapolis and St. Cloud, MN areas. How disappointing is this? The real question that everyone has is if we’ll even have a white Christmas this year. The forecast for the next week is not promising, hopefully we’ll get a little bit just for aesthetics.

Here in Minneapolis, its been a long time since the last snowfall. While we didn’t get the precip that was forecasted today, its only a matter of time. The wind has that certain feel about it.

I wish a good riding season to all, and envy anyone whose already on the trail.

Craig Medred writes in the Outdoors section of the Anchorage Daily News about how large and heavy our modern snowmobiles have gotten. He also remembers times gone by when a Ski-Doo Elan could ride through the deep stuff without the kind of back-breaking labor needed to free a stuck sled today.
